Ingredients

For spice powder

  • Brown cardamon- 2
  • Cinnamon stick- ½ inch
  • Clove-2
  • Black peppercorns-6-7

For matar mushroom 

  • Oil-3 tbsp
  • Asafoetida- a pinch
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Ginger- 1 inch
  • Green chilies-2
  • Tomatoes-3 medium-sized
  • Turmeric powder-¼ tsp
  • Red chili powder- ¼ tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  • Fresh green peas (matar)- ½ cup
  • Fresh mushrooms- 8 Nos. (cut into quarter)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water (as required)
  • Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

How to make Matar Mushroom Recipe

Step 1: Preparation

  • Start by cleaning the mushrooms and green peas thoroughly. Slice the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces and set them aside.
  • Make a fine paste of tomatoes, ginger, and green chilies. Keep the ingredients ready for cooking.
  • Next, prepare the spice masala powder (Brown cardamon, Cinnamon stick, Clove, Black peppercorns) and grind it coarsely.

Step 2: For Matar Mushroom

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium flame. Add cumin seeds let it splutter. Then add a pinch of asafoetida to it.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder, and mix it well.
  • Then add tomato-ginger-chilly paste , add spice powder, dry fenugreek leaves, and sauté for a minute on medium flame until the tomato pastes get thickened and the oil separates from the surfaces.
  • Keep mixing the gravy after every minute.
  • Once the gravy gets thickens and separates oil from it then add Peas mix it well and cover the pan over low flame for a few minutes or until the peas get cooked well.
  • Add little water to the pan, enough to create a semi-thick gravy, mix it well, and bring it to a boil.
  • After the gravy starts boiling add mushrooms, add salt into it. Again, give it a mix, in between you can add more water if it is required (for thin gravy).
  • Cover the pan and let the vegetables cook for a few minutes on low flame, allowing them to release their natural juices.
  • Finally add coriander leaves and your delicious Matar Mushroom is ready to serve.
